My inner geek loves all the data entry and spreadsheets that are a huge part of my work as the HMIS Administrator for our SSVF (Supportive Services for Veteran Families) program. The HMIS (Homeless Management Information System) is a statewide database of all the known Michiganders experiencing a housing crisis. The information there allows service agencies like ours to work better together to assist those in the system. Lots of data and reports in this role. However, it is nice to have a little human interaction sometimes, so I’m in the Healthcare Navigator role as well. That means I contact our homeless and at-risk veterans to assess their health and wellness needs to then connect them to resources where possible. The number of homeless veterans in the counties we serve is much larger than most people realize, but we are doing our part to support them in their journey!
